This has been bugging me for a little while. Does the red dot voicemail notification work for you on your iPhone? It is very strange. On my iPhone there is never a red dot indicating that I have voicemail. On my wife's iPhone, the red dot is always there, even if there is no voicemail. I really want the red dot voicemail indicator to work since it is a neat little feature. The SMS texts indicating I have a voicemail work fine and should work fine for all 1.1.2 users and above. Pre 1.1.2 firmware you need to install a fix to receive the SMS voicemail alerts but I don't think to many people are left on pre 1.1.2 or on 1.1.2 for that matter. Almost everyone is on 1.1.3 or 1.1.4 now. We are both on Fido. So the SMS alerts work fine, why not the red dot or red badge, whatever you want to call it.
On Fido:
Apparently Fido only sends out SMS voicemail notifications to handsets. Fido does not send out GSM voicemail notifications like many carriers do. What does this mean? The red dot will never work properly on fido or until the start sending GSM voicemail notifications. What about using a 3G.1 fido sim card? Still wont work as the network doesn't send out the proper notification.
On Rogers:
Rogers does send out SMS voicemail notifications as well as GSM voicemail notifications. This means it will work. What you need is a 4000 series sim card from Rogers. The 4000 is in the 9th through 12th digits in the sim card serial number. If you do not have this you can buy a new one from Rogers for $35 or one on ebay for $10-15. If you get one on ebay, make sure you are getting a 4000 series.
I wish it would work on Fido but sadly it does not. I don't think I will switch to Rogers over a red dot. The red dot does work fine though when I'm using my T-Mobile sim card. I guess the standard response from Fido would be, when you are using an unsupported handset, not all features will work.

I am with Fido and I have a red dot for my voicemails. I'm not sure what series card I am using, but I'll check that out later on today...
Does the red dot go away when you check your and delete your voicemail?
Yes it does. It shows the # of voicemails I have ala text messaging and emails.
How can I check the series card I have?
Thats strange, I havent heard of anyone else on fido who has the red dot going off and on properly for voicemail.
You can check the sim card series you have by popping out the sim, and reading the serial#. It should also say 3G.1 if its a 3G card. Digit 9 in the serial # will be a 2.
its a series of 4 - 5 digit numbers, and then a letter series. 9th number is not a 2 and the only letters on it are SM32.
I believe I've been rocking this SIM card since 2004 when I had my SE z200.
So just to check one more time, when you get a voice mail the red dot appears over the phone button and the voicemail tab? when you delete the voicemail it goes away?
What is wrong with mine then????
Yall, I'm using SPEAKOUT with my Iphone (since I hate SAF :) and VM works fine. Red dot comes when VM goes away when checked/
I want to get a speakout sim but you can't just buy a sim you have to buy the phone too which kinda sucks
I always have a red dot on my phone button and vm button. If I have any messages, the number of msgs will appear in the red dot until checked. But the red dot is always there. It's strange but it doesn't bother me.
I wish I could get the red dot working. If you always have the red dot there, the numbers in the red dot will be your number of missed calls, not the number of messages you have.
I was on 1.1.1 and none of this worked. I just recently upgraded to 1.1.4 and all the dots and notifications work as the should. I have the original city fido Sim. All is well
I'm just asking you you get a dot over the voicemail tab in the phone app when you have a voicemail and it goes away when you delete the voicemail.
